International Women’s Day – 2023
- March 8 is observed as the International Women’s Day each year.Celebrating Women’s Day is an opportunity to appreciate the remarkable contribution of women to our society.
- In this regard,Department of obstetrics and gynaecology organised a program with the theme ‘DigitALL: Innovation and technology for gender equality’.
- . This theme is based on the United Nations 67th Commission on the Status of Womenpriority theme ‘Innovation and technological change, and education in the digital age for achieving gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls’. Our objective was to create awareness of gender equality for a healthy society.
- It was a two-day program which was started with a creative essay writing and Rangoli competition on 7th March itself and model presentation on the next day based on the theme “DigitALL: Innovation and technology for gender equality“, where students of Sri Manakula Vinayagar Nursing College,SMV Polytechnique College,Manakula Vinayagar Institute of Technology, and Venkateshwara College of Teaching were asked to participate in collaboration with Sri Manakula Vinayagar Medical College Hospital. It was interesting to know that boys have also participated in it.
- On 8 th March, at the basement auditorium of SMVMCH The inauguration ceremony was carried out with a prayer song followed by the introduction speech delivered by Dr.Priyadharshini(Associate professor,OBG Dept).
- The event took place in the presence of Dr.D.Rajagovindan (Director),Dr.R N Kagne(Deputy director and Dean),Dr.K Karthikeyan(Dean Academic) and Dr.M Pragash(Medical superintendent) ,SMVMCH. The program was successfully coordinated by Dr. Ilamathi(Assistant professor-Dept of OBG)
- The guests of honor for this event were Mrs.Swetha Mathur & Miss.Shreyee Mathur who were the Founder and Co-founder of Nilaiyana studios respectively.
- During the event, both of them addressed and spoke about how women are often perceived as cranky and emotional and this stereotypical perception brings about struggles in the workplace for women. They spoke from their own experiences and shared their tales of struggle and success
- Evaluators for this competition were Dr.Nishanthini (Associate Professor, Pharmacology)& Mrs.Kanchana (Principal,Polytechnic college) for essay writing, Dr.Suriyakumari (HOD,Anatomy Dept) & Dr.Poonkuzhali(Associate professor, CSE Dept,MIT) for rangoli competition. Dr.Erli (HOD,Dept of Pathology) and Mrs.Narmadha (Nursing college) judged model making the winners and runners of the competition were awarded with prizes.
- The vote of thanks was delivered by Dr.Inparasi, Assistant Professor,Dept of OBG.The national anthem marked the end of the successful event. The audience were encouraged by our program and expecting like this event in near future.
1.Quiz on Contraception – 24.08.2023
- Contraception day seeks to improve awareness of contraceptive methods and enable new women to make family choices on their reproductive health.
- Each year FIGO society celebrate world contraception day on August 15.
- In this regard, Dept. Obstetrics & Gynaecology organised quiz programme on contraception.
- Our objective was to improve the knowledge and counselling practice of contraception among medical students.
- It was a single day programme, which was started at 10.30 am 24.08.2023 with preliminary rounds involving 150 final year students in Basement Auditorium who topped the exam was selected for main Quiz. 12 students were allocated into 4 team 3 members in each. It involved five rounds
- History, policy in contraception
- Mechanism of action and failure of contraception
- Clinical scenario and image based
- Rapid fire round(Each team got either Barrier contraceptives/Harmonal/IUCD/sterilization procedures)
- Buzzer round
- I t took place in presence of Dr. Bupathy.A (Prof), Dr. Jayasree. M (Prof. & HOD), Dr. Poomalar G.K (Prof), Dr. Nivedita. K (Prof), Dr. Priyadharshini. D (Assoc. Prof), Dr. Ilamathi. S (Assist. Prof). Quiz masters were Dr. Inparasi. G (Assist. Prof) and Dr. Saranyadevi.L (Assist. Prof).
- Winners and runners of the Quiz were awarded with cash prize.

2. Operative Laparoscopy Workshop- 01.04.2023
In this modern era in medical sciences, the practice of minimally invasive surgery is increasing worldwide and making it as an essential skill for the doctors.
In this regard, our Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology organized a live operative laparoscopy workshop on April 1st 2023 from 8.30 A.M to 5.30 P.M at our operation theatre and it was live telecasted at MIT Auditorium, Sri Manakula Vinayagar Medical college & Hospital, Pondicherry under the guidance of organizing chairperson Dr. Jayasree .M,Professor & HOD, Dr. Bubathy .A, Professor organizing Vice-Chairperson, Dr. Nivedita .K, Professor and Dr. Poomalar G.K. Professor.
The introductory sessionwas conducted by Dr.Jayasree .M followed by live workshop from 2 OT theatres conducted by Dr. Mala raj, consultant Gyn & Minimal access surgery, Firm Hospital Chennai and Dr. Gnana Sankar Natesan, Consultant Gyn Oncology & Minimal Access Surgery, S.K.S Hospitals & PCI Institute, Salem.

- Total Laparoscopic Hysterectomy with explanation of pelvic anatomy by Dr. Gana Sankar & Team.
Around 50 participants from various Medical Colleges from Pondicherry and Tamil Nadu actively participated in this workshop and benefited with the skill and knowledge regarding Laparoscopic Surgeries. They were encouraged and awaiting such events in near future.

The Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology organized program in view of “International day for the elimination of violence against Women” on 25.11.2022.
We organized Awareness talk to the public and our final year students participated and almost 30 students were observers.
On 29.11.2022, we organized Poster Presentation on same topic, in which 7 Students actively Participated & 30 Students were observers. Prize for the winners in both the events were presented.

The Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology organized program in view of “International day for the elimination of violence against Women” on 25.11.2022.

Sri Manakula Vinayagar Medical College & Hospital and Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology organized a CME on “PRACTICAL APPROACH TO OPTIMIZE INFERTILITY MANAGEMENT IN RESOURCE CONSTRAINED SETTINGS” on 27th Nov.2021. It was a very interactive session on current updates in infertility. Discussion was entirely targeted on practical aspects which made the CME very interesting. Speakers were invited from different places which made us to learn different approach in managing familiar cases.
7. International Women’s Day – 08.03.2021
Sri Manakula Vinayagar Medical College & Hospital and Department of Pathology and Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology organized International Women’ Day Screening programme for Cervical Cancer and Breast Cancer from 08.03.2121 to 20.03.2021, age group between 25 – 40 Pap smear, USG, Mammography were done at (free of cost) pamphlets were issued HPV vaccines About 125 participants were attended the programme.
8. CME on Adolescent Health – 24.03.2019
A CME was organized by Sri Manakula Vinayagar Medical College & Hospital and Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Puducherry in collaboration with OGSP on “Adolescent Health” on 24th March 2019 at Hotal Annamalai, Puducherry, Speakers were Dr. R. Sasikala on topic of Adolescent PCOS, Dr. Aruna Kekre on topic Adenexal mass in adolescent, Dr. Jayanthini on Adolescent Psychology, Dr. Jaya Vijayaraghavan on Primary Amenorrhoea, Dr. Rita Vijayaselvi on Teenage pregnancy, Dr. Gowri Dorairajan on Too late / Too early puberty, Dr. Padma on AUB in Puberty, There were around 63 participants, TNMC credit points were given participants were satisfied with content and arrangements of CME Feedback was obtained and suggestion were noted.
23.07.2022 – INSTRUMENTAL DELIVERY:REVIVING THE FADING ART”(HANDS ON TRAINING SESSION
Operative vaginal deliveries have long held an important place in the obstetrician toolbox for delivery during the 2nd stage of labour in the face of fetal or maternal concerns. Now the number of instrumental deliveries has declined exponentially in recent decades and resident training in the skill is near non existent in many programs.
On 23rd July, 2022 We conducted a workshop on “INSTRUMENTAL DELIVERY:REVIVING THE FADING ART”(HANDS ON TRAINING SESSION) in our institution at simulation centre, SMVMCH from the department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology under the guidance of our chairperson Dr. Bupathy(Professor ) and Dr. Jayasree( Professor & HOD of OBG Dept) for the benefit of postgraduates from various medical colleges.
33 participants from various medical colleges of Pondicherry and Tamilnadu got benefited our workshop and we believe that our workshop successfully improved confidence and skill of the residents in Instrumental delivery.
