The department of Radio-diagnosis was established in MARCH 2005. Emergency service were started in 2006. It is a well-equipped department with latest radiology equipments, fully computerised reporting and , fully air conditioned department providing round the clock patient care services, both for in patients and out patients.

The department has One Professor, Three Associate Professors, Three Assistant Professors, and Five Senior Residents to look after the day to day activities of the department and fostering radiology teaching to undergraduates (MBBS) and post graduate (MD-Radio-diagnosis) students. The department has got 16 skilled technicians to provide routine as well as round the clock emergency and bedside services in the hospital. There are in addition, Staff nurse, ANMs, Junior Assisstants, Female Attender, totalling 13 to help run the department.

PACS System

In the department P.A.C.S.(Picture Archiving and Communication System) all patient’s images and reports are displayed in monitors stationed inside the department as well as in various OPD and wards for the benefit of other teaching faculties.

OPD patient services

The departments caters to 12 super speciality clinics like cardiology, cardio-thoracic surgery, nephrology, urology, neurology, neurosurgery, plastic surgery ,pulmonary medicine and medical gastroenterology, medical oncology, surgical oncology, paediatric surgery and 15 basic clinical departments like-general medicine,generalsurgery,obstetrics&gynaecology,orthopaedics,paediatrics psychiatry, dermatology, ophthalmology, E.N.T., Dental etc..

The department also caters to special clinics, Master Health Check clinic, various Govt. medical schemes. and companies.

The department takes part in medical camps in various villages held regularly.

Radiological and imaging services provided by the department

  1. Computerised radiography- general and bedside.-of whole body.
  2. Image intensifying fluoroscopic services.-Like barium study.
  3. Ultrasonography – general abdomen, neck, obstetric, gynaecic, endocrine,
  4. Musculoskeletal, cranial, breast, ECHO, etc.
  5. vascular (Doppler color, power) carotids, limb arteries, veins, IVC, abdominal
  6. vessels like renal, SMA, SMV, PORTAL, HEPATIC, ETC.

Radiation safety awareness

There are over 94 of radiation workers listed .We are the custodians of radiation. We take every care to protect all patients, especially, pregnant women and ,children from unwarranted radiation. We have a separate wing ( non-radiation ) for catering to pregnant women. All workers have film badges for monitoring radiation dose. We also have devices for radiation protestion like, lead aprons, gloves. Film badges are sent to AERB Bombay for dose determination.

  2. Mammography clinic –for early breast cancer detection.

  • VI, VII semesters are posted for 6 months in a year for practical training in radiology. They are also given lectures in radiology theory classes for 6 months in a year.

PG Academics Activities in the department

  • We have M.D. Radio-Diagnosis postgraduate university course., since june,2014.We admit four students every year. Two batch of 8 students have completed the course and successfully passed the MD university examination.
  • All The postgraduate students undergo advanced training in pediatrics, nuclear medicine and interventional radiology at reputed teaching hospitals in Chennai.
  • All The students have attended various national and international conferences and presented papers.
  • We have a extensive teaching programme for the benefit of our students, as per MCI syllabus.
  • Every Wednesday, First Thursday & Fourth Tuesday interdepartmental meet is held with major departments.
  • We conduct weekly quiz programme for the benefit of MBBS STUDENTS.
  • The department has a good collection of over 175 radiology books and over 600 teaching films.
  • We celebrate ‘x-ray inventors day’ as Roentgen day every year, in 8th November
  • It has to be connected to Hospital Information System for better acquisition of all patient data.
