Dietary service is one of the most important hospital supportive services contributing to the recovery of health, through scientifically prepared diets & educating the patients regarding use & utility of different foods & balanced diet.
Dietetics
Dietary Department of Sri Manakula Vinayagar Medical College and Hospital caters a number of patients with nutritionally balanced & hygienic therapeutic diets. Its purposes are to maintain good nutritional status, to correct deficiencies & to prevent a number of diseases & to maintain body ability to metabolize the nutrients &thereby to reduce complications in a patient’s life.
The dietician increases the awareness and understanding of the importance of diet and physical activities regarding the good health.

The kitchens are located in the main block of the hospital. The main block kitchen provides diets for the all the in-patients in the wards.

Summary:
The Dietary department conducted a quiz competition on 9th September 2025 at SMVMCH in the Hospital Third Floor Room no.307 to Celebrated National Nutrition Week -2005.
Fifty Staff Nurses and Paramedical Staff Participated in the quiz.
Quiz was Conducted at12.15pm to 12.45 pm in the form of a written test with 30 questions [MCQ] Mrs.Tamilselvi of the Quality Department has secured the first prize,Ms.Shalini of the Nursing Deparment has been awarded the second prize ,and Mrs.Kanimozhi also from the Nursing Department has achieved the third prize.
The Winners will be awarded with trophies and Certificate on October 16th World Food day celebration.
