Essay competition
As part of the World Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) Awareness Week celebrations, an essay competition themed “Educate. Advocate. Act now.” was organized for Phase II MBBS students. The event took place on 22.11.2024, from 8:30 to 9:00 AM, in the Department of Pharmacology’s demo room. A total of eight students were participated. Prizes were awarded to the top three participants with the highest scores.

As per the schedule event started at 9.00 am and participants were allowed to attend the pretest after registration. A total of 119 participants from various institutions have registered for the event. The welcome address was given by Dr. Shanthi, Professor and HOD, Department of Pharmacology, SMVMCH. Dr Vivek Raj introduced our first speaker scientific session, Dr Manikandan S, Professor and Head of the Department of harmacology, JIPMER deliver his talk on the topic Overview of TDM, Dr Anuranjani, Assistant Professor, Department of Pharmacology, SMVMCH introduced the next speaker, Dr Jayanthi. M, Professor, Department of Pharmacology, JIPMER. to speak on the topic of “Clinical application of TDM”. This session was followed by a tea break, Dr.Kiruba Assistant Professor, Department of Pharmacology, then introduced the next speaker, Dr. Suganthi. S, Associate Professor Department of Pharmacology, JIPMER to give a talk on the topic of Analytics challenges in TDM Dr. Mathiarasi introduced the last session speaker Chaithra. B Ajayan Senior Resident, Department of Pharmacology, JIPMER, on the topic “Case-based discussion in TDM”. Description of the Event:
Scientific session - Forenoon

Registration for the event started at 9.00 am and participants were allowed to attend the pretest after registration. A total of 40m participants from various institutions across Tamilnadu and Pondicherry have registered for the event. Welcome address was given by Dr. Shanthi, Professor and HOD, Department of Pharmacology, SMVMCH. Resource persons for the workshop were honored by the Director and Dean, SMVMCH with memento. Dr. Nishanthi, Professor, Department of Pharmacology, SMVMCH introduced the first speaker of scientific session, Dr. Kavimani, Professor and HOD, Mother Theresa Postgraduate and research institute of health sciences to deliver his talk on the topic ‘Alternatives to animal experiment’. This session was followed by tea break. Dr. Anuranjani, Assistant professor, Department of Pharmacology, SMVMCH introduced the next speaker, Dr. Rajaram, Tutor & I/C Veterinarian to speak on the topic ‘Zebrafish Husbandry, maintenance, feeding and breeding. Dr. Vivekraj, Assistant professor, Department of Pharmacology, SMVMCH then introduced next speaker, Dr. Sunil Santaji Shivekar, Associate professor, Department of Microbiology. SMVMCH to give a talk on the topic ‘Role of Zebrafish in biomedical research’. Dr. Kavimani concluded the scientific session in the morning with his talk on the topic ‘Disease biology using zebrafish as a model’. The whole event was compered by Dr. Kavitha, Postgraduate, Department of Pharmacology, SMVMCH.

Hands on session - afternoon

After the lunch break, workshop was continued with hands on training session. Dr. Rajaram, Dr. Sunil Santaji shivekar and Mr. Siddharth, research scholar, Mother Theresa Postgraduate and research institute of health sciences trained the participants in routes of drug administration and dissection of zebrafish. Mr. Siddharth also demonstrated four CNS models in zebrafish for better understanding. Vote of thanks was given by Dr. Vivekraj. Participants were provided with certificate after completing Post-test and feedback. Finally the workshop was concluded with national anthem

The Department of Pharmacology, Sri Manakula Vinayagar Medical College and Hospital, Puducherry has celebrated “Pharmacovigilance Week – 2024” from 17 .09. 2024 to 23.09.2024 Under the theme “Building ADR reporting for culture for patient”. Quiz program, and outreach program for patients to create awareness regarding ADR reporting was conducted.
Description of the Report:

Quiz Competition
Since 17.09.2024 was announced as a public holiday the programs scheduled for that day were preponed to 16th September. Preliminary quiz competition was conducted on the topic of Pharmacovigilance on 16.09.2024 at 9.00AM in demo room of Department of pharmacology. Totally 11 teams, with each comprising 3 students were participated. Among these 11 teams, 4 teams with highest score were selected for final round. The final round of quiz competition was conducted on 18.09.2024 at 9.30AM in the lecture hall 4. The final round was conducted as four different level. Winners and runner-ups were awarded trophies and certificates by the Director. Certificates were also given to all participants in the final round of quiz.

Pharmacovigilance Awareness Program
From 18th to 23rd September 2024, postgraduate students were conducted an awareness campaign on adverse drug reactions (ADRs) for patients at SMVMC Hospital and the PHC in Thirubuvanai. Pamphlets containing essential information about ADR reporting and its significance were also distributed to the patients.

The department of Pharmacology has conducted a debate competition for the phase II MBBS students in view of Gender Equity Program on the topic “Does Gender Bias still exist in our society? Yes/No” on 12.03.24. The invitation for the same is attached below
As per the schedule, on 12.03.24 debate competition was conducted on the topic “Does Gender Bias still exist in our society? Yes/No”. Two teams of 4 students each participated in the event. The event was hosted by Pooja. A, Phase II MBBS student. Dr. K.S. Venkatarangan form the department of Psychiatry has graced the occasion as a moderator for the event. The students came up with interesting and valuable points to support their claim and the moderator ensured that the arguments remained in the healthier way. Felicitation was done in the presence of Dr. D. Rajagovindan, Director, SMVMCH and Dr. R. N. Kagne, Deputy Director and Dean, SMVMCH. Moderator was honored with a memento while all the participants were given a pen box as prize along with participation certificate.

Description of the report:

As per the schedule, on 25th March at 9.30 am , the Department of Pharmacology has conducted a guest lecture for the phase II MBBS students in view of Gender Equity Program on the topic “Women entrepreneurship”.Around 116 MBBS students attended the guest lecture. The chief guest was Dr M.V.R Vidya, Senior Consultant Physician and Diabetologist, founder and Medical Director of M.V.R Medical Centre Puducherry. She had been an investigator in many nationwide studies on Insulin therapy and OAD and Indian Insulin therapy consensus guidelines were created subsequently. She has conducted hundreds of free camps in and around Puducherry. She was a Guest speaker in various Medical Colleges and Medical Associations in TamilNadu and Puducherry

The welcome address was given by Dr. Shanthi M, Professor and head of the department. Dr. Nitya S,Professor, introduced the guest speaker to the audience

The speaker gave an interesting insight into her life journey experiences that has led to the fulfillment of her dreams. She has instilled nuggets of inspiration into the students with her heart touching speech.

The program came to end with the proposal of Vote of thanks by Dr. Nishanthi A,Associate professor, following which Dr. Shanthi M ,honoured the speaker with a memento.

Seminar Competition

As per the schedule, on 14 th May at 9.30 am, the Seminar competition was conducted on the theme ‘Showcase your teaching skill’ in Lecture hall 2. Six students participated in the event. In the end, assessment was done based on the scientific content, creativity and presentation skill of the participants. Dr. Shanthi, Professor & HOD, Department of Pharmacology felicitated the winners of the competition (I, II and III place) with prizes and Certificates were given to all the participants.
