Workshop on OSPE & Feedback

A workshop on “OSPE & Feedback” was organized by MEU on 19th July 2018, exclusively for the first-yearfaculty, to foster efficient learning among first year students. The session was facilitated by Dr.Amol Dongre, and the session was very interactive.

1st Revised Basic Course Workshop & AETCOM

The Medical Education Unit (MEU) has organized Revised Basic Course workshop and AETCOM under the observation of faculty from JIPMER, Puducherry, regional center for our region.

Revised Basic Course workshop and AETCOM in ‘Medical Education Technologies’ was held on 23th-26th July 2018 under the observation of Dr. Kadambari D, Convener, MCI Regional Centre, JIPMER, Puducherry-605006. A total of 28 senior, mid and junior level faculties from our institute participated in the workshop. The 4-day workshop was organized as per the guidelines of MCI, the sessions were interactive, with group activities for participants. The workshop was evaluated by the observer and the feedback was obtained from the participants in each workshop.

Basic Medical Education – CBME

A revised program on “Basic Medical Education” was held on 5th April 2019, in view of orienting the inhouse faculty to the components of CBME and sensitization CISP. Around 25 faculty (representatives from all the departments) participated in the program. The Curriculum Committee members facilitated the sessions and they were interactive.

Intern Orientation Program

Two-day Orientation programwasheld for a batch of interns on 30-31 January,2017The workshop was facilitated by in house faculty.

The intern orientation program held between 28th to 30th January 2019, was modified into three-day program with more emphasis on the mini workshops with adequate hands-on training on the basic skills expected to be obtained by an intern. Orientation program for postgraduates in Research Methodology

The MEU, Research Committee and the Department of Community Medicine jointly conducts an orientation workshop for first year Postgraduates every year. The workshop focuses on the basics of research Full day sessions over a period of three days in two batches from 9-12 July, 2018 / 16-18 July,2018 were conducted for sensitizing the post-graduates on research methods. Lecture series: Curriculum Designs [Theories]

As a second program of the lecture series, Dr.Amol Dongre facilitated the session on “Curriculum Designs” for the Inhouse faculty of SMVMCH on 29th August 2017. He elaborated on the theories and designs of curriculum across the globe and there was active interaction with the participants.

As a third event of the lecture series, Dr.Kadambari from JIPMER, highlighted on the “Principles of Student Assessment” for around 40 inhouse faculty of SMVMCH. The session was highly interactive.

Orientation program on ‘Basic teaching and presentation skills: One and Half day Orientation program on ‘Basic teaching and presentation skills’ was held for Post –graduates in two batches on 19-20 September, 2017 and 5th& 6th October, 2017as per the program mentioned below. Orientation Program for ‘Compulsory Rotatory Residential Internship’ (CRRI): Two-day orientation program was held on 09-10th January,2018 as per the program mentioned below. The workshop was facilitated by in house faculty. There were 113 participants and the sessions were interactive and participatory in nature.

Learning outcomes of the program were -

  • To offer formal orientation to roles, responsibilities and rules for CRRI at SMVMCH

Workshop on “Research Methods for Faculty”

A two- day workshop on “Research Methods” was organized for the inhouse faculty of SMVMCH ON 21st& 22nd October 2016. Around 30 inhouse faculty participated in this workshop with sessions that highlighted on the essential components of a research writing and questionnaire development. There were group activities in between which made the sessions interactive.

Faculty Development Program

First Basic Course Workshop in ‘Medical Education Technologies’ was held on 26th-28th June 2013 under the observation of Dr. Sudhar Singh, Associate Professor, Department of General Medicine, SRMC&RI, Chennai. A total of 22 senior, mid and junior level faculties’ form our institute participated in the workshop. The 3-day workshop was organized as per the guidelines of MCI, the sessions were interactive, with group activities for participants. The workshop was evaluated by the observer and the feedback was obtained from the participants in each workshop.

Dr. AnantBhan, MBBS, MHSc (Pune, India) had facilitated a two-day workshop on ‘Ethics in Research and Publication’, it was held from 4th and 5th March 2014.The two-day workshop was jointly organized by the Ethics Committee and Medical Education Unit. There were 28 participants consisting of the members of the Research committee, the Ethics Committee (Human and animal) and faculty of SMVMCH.

Workshop on ‘How to Guide a MD thesis’

A two-day workshop was organized on 28th -29th May, 2014 by the Medical Education Unit and Department of Community Medicine,SMVMCH on ‘How to Guide a MD thesis’. Dr Geetanjali Batnamabane, Dr. Raveendran.R and Dr. S.Manikandan, from Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Postgraduate Medicine and Research (JIPMER), Pondicherry were the eminent facilitators for the workshop. Programs for Postgraduates

Orientation Workshop on Research Methods - first year Postgraduates, 2013

Orientation Workshop was conducted for the newly joined batch of post-graduates from pre-clinical, para-clinical and clinical subjects for the year 2013. Full day sessions over a period of three days from July 2nd - 4th July 2013 were conducted for sensitizing the post-graduates on research methods. There were 43 participants and the sessions were interactive and participatory in nature. The sessions were conducted by five faculties from the department of Community Medicine. Dean (Academic) and Professor of Forensic Medicine, Dr. R. Kagne sensitized the participants on medico-legal issues in medical research and practice. Dr. Jafrin from the Department of Pharmacology talked about ‘Animal Experiments’.

Orientation workshop on “Teaching Methodologies” and “Medical Certification of Cause of Death”

Orientation workshop on “Teaching Methodologies” and “Medical Certification of cause of death” was conducted by MEU in collaboration with Department of Forensic Medicine for the postgraduates of 2013-16 batch on 5.07.2013. The forenoon sessions were on the Medical Education technologies, AV aids usage in teaching and postgraduate teaching methodologies. The afternoon sessions were on medical certification of cause of death for MLC and Non-MLC cases. Pre-Test and Post -test was conducted and the postgraduates were highly benefitted by the program.

The Department of Community Medicine along with MEU organized and conducted a workshop “Basics of Educational Project Development” on 23 November 2012. Orientation Program for Postgraduates

In 2011, the first batch of post-graduates was admitted in 7 pre-clinical subjects and Community Medicine. Half –a-day sessions over a period of six days were held from June 13- 18, 2012. There were 13 participants and sessions were interactive and participatory in nature. We also had a very informative session on ‘how to write a thesis protocol’ by Dr Gitanjali Batmanabane a distinguished faculty from the Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Postgraduate Medicine and Research (JIPMER), Pondicherry. As reflected in the feedback, the sessions were well received by the participants. There was significant improvement in their pre and post median scores.

A one-day workshop on presentation skills was conducted on 29.05.2013 for the second-year postgraduates. The program comprised of sessions on preparing for a presentation, importance of body language, how to effectively use audio visual aids. There was an interactive group discussion at the end of the program. As reflected in the feedback the sessions were well received by the participants.
