Aims and objectives

To discuss the role of MR Spectroscopy in differentiating various ring enhancing lesions in Brain.

Materials and methods:

This study was a hospital based Cross sectional study conducted in Department of Radio- Diagnosis,

In a total of 20 patients, MRI and their findings were correlated with MR Spectroscopy findings during the period from October 2020 to October 2021 at Sri Manakula Vinayagar Medical College, Puducherry.

Magnetic resonance imaging with Spectroscopy studies are performed on 1.5 Tesla PHILIPS whole body MR systems using standard imaging head coil.

Results:

Out of twenty patients various presented with lipid peak, lactate peak and some of them show choline peak and reduced NAA peak.

Conclusion:

Ring enhancing lesions of the brain remain a diagnostic challenging dilemma including a wide differential diagnosis of neoplastic and non-neoplastic lesions. MRI with Spectroscopy studies stands as the main diagnostic imaging modality, using conventional as well as advanced sequences and helps in accurate differentiation between these lesions for better diagnostic accuracy.

Clinical relevance/Take home points:

MRI along with MRS has emerged as the most sensitive modality in the characterization of intracranial ring enhancing lesions.MRS helps in differentiation and characterization of various ring enhancing lesions based on various metabolites leading to accurate diagnosis.
